National
Series Round 3 - 12th June 2005
The
Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club were competing in the local round of
the2005 National Series at the Peterborough BMX Club last Sunday and
once again the entry was very high with almost 440 riders taking part,
which ensured very competitive racing on the very fast sweeping track.
Although the weather threatened for most of the weekend the rain only
came in the early morning and did not affect the riders or spectators
and the finals on late Sunday afternoon were held in bright sunshine.
The
7-year class saw Royston youngest rider, Ethan Lewis was undaunted by
the long track and high obstacles track and recorded a hard earned 5th
on the line in the main “A” final. In the 9-year class both
Royston members made the semi finals but James Handleigh crashed out
on the first berm with team-mate Zach Stevens finishing in fifth which
meant both riders qualified for the “B” final where they raced
each over the full length of the track with James just taking the win
ahead of Zach in the last few metres. In the male 19+ class, Ashley
Seaton had a poor day as he failed to move out of the qualifying
stages, whilst Royston’s representatives in the 40+ Cruiser class,
Leroy Seaton, rode well to take 5th in the “B” final.
In
the Elite Class category, Laurence Mapp returned to form as he took
3rd in the main “A” final with younger brother Chris grabbing the
win in the class in the “B” final and then both Laurence and
Christopher took part in the 16 Plus Pro-Am which saw Chris exiting
the competition at the semi final stage whilst Laurence made it
through to the main Final where he again finished in 3rd.
Royston’s
newest rider was Kieran Archer who was competing in the Under 9 year
Novice class where he
completed all his races to finish in a well earned
7th.
Next
weekend the Royston Club members will be back to the Regional Series
at Ipswich and the following week will be off down the M4 to Cheddar
for the British Round of the European Series.
The
major improvements to the Royston club’s own track in Burns Road are
complete with the new surface having been laid so club evenings, which
started in mid May are moving into full swing. Further details of
forthcoming club and regional events are published on the club web
site at www.roystonrockets.co.uk,
