Winter
Regional Round 3 - 12th December 2005
Members
of the Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club travelled to Milton Keynes for
the third round of the East Anglian Winter Series last Sunday. The
track was frozen early in the day but as the sun came out the track
thawed leaving a layer of slime on the race surface which made the
final part of the day unpleasant, although the 60+ riders that took
part enjoyed some very competitive racing in the watery sunshine.
The
youngest class are nominally 7 years and under and are known as
Formula 5 and Royston had no less than five riders in the class with
the best result going to Aaron Dalleywater who finished in 4th
in the A final, ahead of Daniel Blanche who finished in 5th
and Bradan Blanche who took 6th, whilst in the B final Luca
Stephenson finished in 3rd just ahead of Jasia Blanche in 4th.
In Formula 4 for 8-10 year olds, the Rockets four riders had varying
success with Louis Burton taking a fine A final win with Kyle
Gutteridge in 4th whilst the youngest rider in the class,
Ethan Lewis, took 3th in the B final just inches behind
teammate Aston Blanche who took 2nd. Another two Rockets
were competing in Formula 3 (11-13 years) with James Handleigh, who
was riding up a class taking 3rd and Ben Gutteridge taking 5th
in the A final. Both Royston riders in the Formula 2 class had a good
day with Wayne Gutteridge finishing in 7th in the A final
and Anthony Taylor, another Rocket who had qualified to ride up a
class took a fine win in the class “B” Final.
The
next round of the Winter Series is on January 22nd at the new
racetrack in Norwich. Practice starts at 11-45am and rider
registration closes at 12-00 noon with racing starting around 12-45pm
– or sooner if the weather is bad!
