Winter Regional Round 5 - 20th March 2005

Members of the Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club travelled to Ipswich for the final round of the East Anglian Winter Series last Sunday. The track was recently resurfaced after the winter weather had made it unrideable so for the first time the 55 riders taking part were presented with a good racing surface.

Following his win in round 4, Royston’s Ethan Lewis moved up to Formula 4 where he took a hard earned 7th with older team mate Louis Burton in third in the main final. Formula 3 had three riders from the Rockets with Kyle Gutteridge also having moved up from Formula 4 taking 7th in the “B” Final and James Handleigh took the win in the B Final whilst Ben Gutteridge finished in a well deserved 5th in the A Final. Another Rocket who had qualified to ride up a class was Wayne Gutteridge who raced to 3rd in the Formula 2 B Final and the last Rocket to race was Richard Townsend in Formula 1, who took a hard earned 3rd in the “A” Final. At the end of racing the host club presented three awards to riders selected for their attitude, determination and effort and one of these awards went to Royston’s James Handleigh whilst the other two awards went to riders from Milton Keynes and Braintree.

Full details of forthcoming club and regional events are published on the club web site at www.roystonrockets.co.uk, or ring 01763 260959 for more information on BMX racing.
