Winter
Regional Round 4 - 27th February 2005
Members
of the Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club travelled to Milton Keynes for
Round 4 of the East Anglian Winter Series last Sunday. The track was
very sticky after the frost came out during the morning although the
wind kept the conditions bitterly cold for the riders who had
travelled from across the region. One of the 60 plus riders
commented that the track was a mixture of custard and tikka marsala
sauce and there was nothing the club members could do to improve it as
the regular light snow showers kept the surface water in place.
In
Formula
5 for the youngest riders, Royston’s Ethan Lewis took first place to
return to his winning run which may of taken him back to the top of
the class rankings with one more round to go. In Formula 4 there were
three Rockets with Kyle Gutteridge, who had moved up from the F5 class
taking an excellent win with team mate Louis Burton in third in the
main final and Luke Gibson returning from a long lay off to take first
place in the B final. Formula 3 also had three riders from the Rockets
with Ben Gutteridge taking 6th just ahead of team-mate James
Handleigh, who was riding up a class in 7th and Kirstie Gibson
finishing in 5th in the B Final. Another Rocket who had qualified to
ride up a class was Wayne Gutteridge who rode to a well-deserved first
in the Formula 2 B Final. The last Rocket to race was Shaun Doherty in
Formula 1, who took a hard earned 5th in the “A” Final.
The
final round of the Regional Winter Series is on March 20th at Ipswich
whilst the Royston club is looking forward to a break in the weather
to carry out changes to their track in Royston’s Burns Road before
the summer season starts in late March. Full details of club and
regional events are published on the club web site at www.roystonrockets.co.uk,
