Winter
Regional Round 3 - 20th February 2005
The
Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club was host to Round 3 of the East
Anglian Winter Series last Sunday. The track became a little sticky
after the frost came out and the early morning snow showers looked
like putting the event in jeopardy but by the time practice started
the weather improved, although still bitterly cold for the 66 riders
who had travelled from across the region
In
Formula 5 for the youngest riders, Royston’s Ethan Lewis took third
overall after a fall in his second race stopped his winning run in the
series rankings. In Formula 4 there were no less than four Rockets
with Kyle Gutteridge, who had moved up from the F5 class took the win
in the B final whilst team mates Nicholas Duncan, Louis Burton and
Luke Holbrow respectively filled the top three places in the main
final. Formula 3 had five
riders from the home club with Zach Stevens finishing in 8th
and Anthony Taylor, competing in his first Regional level race took an
excellent 2nd in the B final and in the A final Ben Gutteridge took 8th
just behind team mate James Handleigh, who was riding up a class, and
took 7th and Wayne Gutteridge who rode to an excellent 2nd
place. With no riders in the Formula 2 class the last two
Rockets to race were Shaun Doherty and Richard Townsend in Formula 1,
where Richard took 3rd and Shaun took 6th in the “A”
Final.
The
next round of the Regional Winter Series is on February 27th
at Milton Keynes whilst the Royston club is looking forward to a break
in the weather to carry out changes to their track in Royston’s
Burns Road before the summer season starts in late March. Full details
of club and regional events are published on the club web site at www.roystonrockets.co.uk,
