Winter
Regional Round 2 - 16th January 2005
The
long break in competition over Christmas and New Year period finally
came to an end for the members of the Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club
who travelled along the new A120 to Braintree to race in Round 2 of
the East Anglian Winter Series. The
track was a little sticky in paces but the weather stayed dry for the
106 riders who had travelled from across the region.
In
Formula 5 for the youngest riders, Royston’s Kyle Gutteridge took
top spot after four straight race wins with team mate Ethan Lewis
taking third overall to maintain his position at the top of the series
rankings. Moving up to Formula 4 the two Rockets both made the main
final with James Handleigh taking a fine win to compensate for having
an accident in the previous round at Peterborough, whilst Louis Burton
grabbed 4th on the line after a race long tussle with
riders from the Braintree club. For the second running, Formula 3 saw
the two older Gutteridge brothers in the same B final but this time
with Ben just beating Wayne on the sprint to the line – taking 1st
and 2nd respectively. Also in Formula 3 was Zach Stevens who lead the
“D” Final from start to finish with Royston’s unluckiest rider
on the day being Nicholas Duncan who took a heavy fall in his third
moto to spoil his chances of good points. With no riders in the
Formula 2 class the last two Rockets to race were Shaun Doherty and
Richard Townsend in Formula 1, where Richard took 4th in
the “A” Final and Shaun took 6th in the “B” Final.
The
next round of the Regional Winter Series is on February 20th
at Royston and the clubs next club practice session will be held on
Sunday February 13th from
2pm at their track in Royston’s Burns Road. Full details of club and
regional events are published on the club web site at www.roystonrockets.co.uk,
