WINTER SERIES ROUND 2 AT ROYSTON

The 2nd round of the East Anglia BMX Racing Winter series attracted 80 riders to Royston on Sunday 20th and at the start of the day the conditions were cold but dry but later on the sun came out and the track started to thaw which left a layer of slush over a frozen base which was very unpleasant for riders and Mum’s washing machine – let alone Dad’s car on the way home! The Rockets had 17 riders taking part, which is more than we have had at one event for sometime and the new members, especially the younger ones are to be congratulated in sticking it out for the day and we hope they will be back for the next rounds of the series. Many thanks to all club members that shivered through the day to make the event another well run East Anglia race with racing starting on time and everything finished and packed away before 4-00pm!

 Club Presentation Evening

The date has been confirmed as December 4th at Stevenage Bowl – everyone who has put his or her name forward to attend should arrive at 4-30pm. We have booked one game and 6 lanes so everyone should have chance to have a go. The Committee has agreed that the club will pay for all those who come under the “child” category but “adults” will have to pay for the evening – which we believe is £4-20 per person. After the bowling the Presentation of the Summer Series Trophies will take place to those who have qualified. In addition there will be awards for “Club Rider of the Year” and “Club Member of the Year” which are selected by the Club committee and also the “Rob Indri Award” for the rider who has improved the most in the year and the “Shane Keeler Award” for the rider who has been the most dedicated club rider in the year – both of which are voted for by the club members at the Presentation Evening.

 CLUB AGM – 22nd November

The Annual General Meeting of the Club was held in the Coombes Community Centre on November 22nd and a good turn out made it a very positive meeting with lots of useful ideas and suggestions for the coming year. The Committee also has a few new faces and now includes;

Chairman – Phil Townsend                                             Vice Chairman - Richard Lewis.

Treasurer. – Eileen Godfrey                                     Secretary – Maureen Townsend.

Membership Secretary – Sue & Phil Burton                        Promotion Officer – Wayne Taylor.

Club Coach – Richard Townsend

 The Club Membership fees will remain the same at £10 for Individual Members and £15 for Families – Membership forms will be sent out soon after Christmas so they don’t get confused with parcel wrapping paper! Summer Series Race fees will also remain unchanged but ways of attracting more rider participation, especially in the older classes, will be investigated.

 The members present at the AGM also agreed that the club should apply for Go-Ride status with British Cycling, which will give access to a lot of information and support, as well as contacts with local schools through the BC development programmes.
