Club
Practice / Race Evenings
As
many of you will now know the format of our Tuesday night sessions has
changed from that originally planned. The Regional Olympic development
squad for their coaching sessions is currently using both our track
and Peterborough’s, which in the case of Royston, is on a Tuesday
evening. This has meant that we now start the club evenings at 6-00pm
and after a bit of free practice, Jonathan Roberts has been taking our
club riders for a coaching session alongside the Olympic Squad –
this gives your club the benefit of more coaching and gives Jonathan
more experience working under the Regional Coach, Rich Townsend,
before he completes his coaching course this autumn.
The
club Summer Race Series will be held over the 6 or 7 weeks of the
school summer holidays and we hope to attract a few more riders from
other clubs to make the racing more interesting.
Regional
Series Date Change
Following
the cancellation of the Braintree Regional due to heavy rains and a
waterlogged track the event has been rescheduled for 11th
June.
British
Cycling Membership and Licence.
The
majority of our members who ride at Regional and National level have
now updated their licences for 2006 but just to explain the
complicated bit again, you must remember that there are two different
parts to the card you get from British Cycling. Your BC
“membership”, which is on the white side of your BC card, runs for
12 months from when it was issued but your BC “Race Licence”,
which is actually an internationally recognised licence, is the
coloured side of the card and runs from January 1st to the
end of December. So if you have not applied for a licence for 2006 you
do not have one now although your membership may still be valid! The
colour of the licence changes each year and 2006 is Green as dictated
by the UCI – what colour is your licence?
The
Club Promotions Day - Saturday May 6th,
The
promotions day was a great success and Wayne Taylor’s hard work has
paid off in the form of both club sponsorship and new members. Many
thanks to all the club members who got stuck in both before and during
the day to make it so much fun for both riders and spectators alike.
Pictured below are some of the club riders at the promotions day in
their new JK Environmental / Custom Riders sponsored race gear.
Regional
and National level club riders who have not yet received their race
gear are urged to talk to Maureen at the next opportunity as it takes
some time to get if we have to order it from USA!
