Track
Upgrades
The
changes to the track are coming on – a little later in the year than
we would of liked but at least they should be finished by the end of
May. The next stage will be to lay the limestone surface – around
about 80 tonnes of it so if you have a very large wheelbarrow… The
gate start system is being converted to 4 lights so it is in line with
the rules expected for 2006 and the lights are being made even
brighter so everyone can see them clearly from the gate. We are going
back to using limestone for the surface as it does not stain clothing
so badly as the carrstone we tried last year and hopefully it will
survive the winter weather a bit better.
Summer
Regional Series
The
first two Regional Series races of 2005 have been the two
“Inter-Regional” events – firstly at Milton Keynes with almost
250 riders and on the 8th May at Hayes, which also had nearly 200
riders. Both events were really exciting and were by far the biggest
regional level events held in the country for many years.
The South Region
won the Challenge Trophy for 2005 by about 200 points – 2788 to 2589
but Milton Keynes took the Club award to retain honour for East
Anglia.
The Riders Regional ranking are on the Regional web
site (www.bmxeast.com) so you check how you have been doing.
The next round on May 15th is being run by the
Norwich club but at the IPSWICH track so don’t go rushing off
up the A11! May 22nd is Round 4 at Peterborough just before
their National race on June 12th, followed by a break in
the regional calendar until June 19th at Ipswich.
Royston’s Regional on July 3rd
Royston’s round of the Summer Regional Series is on
July 3rd and the committee will need help before the event
as well as on the day. If anyone has a bit of spare time to visit
local shops to try to get raffle prizes, or donations to run the event
– white paint, bunting, adverts to put in the programme etc. they
should talk to Phil or Maureen.
Remember, we have the East Anglia Championships
in September so if we do get too many prizes for the July event they
can always be used in September. More information on other help needed
will be in the June Newsletter.
Club
Practice Evenings
The
regular Tuesday sessions have been disrupted this year by the major
changes to the first straight but now that the basic shape is sorted
out we can start meeting again – the Club Summer Race Series will be
discussed shortly by the club committee but as agreed at the AGM there
will be less rounds this year and we hope to attract more riders to
race regularly.
Royston
Rockets Mugs
The Club Mugs that were ordered
months ago have now arrived – if you ordered any please come along
on Tuesday evening to pick them up – bring your £5 per mug with
you.
2005
Summer National Series
The first round of this year’s
series attracted an amazing 450+ riders – over 100 more than the
first round last year! The Rockets had seven riders at the event and
most of them made the finals to get the year off to a flying start.
The next round is at the Mid Lancs. Club in Coppull, near Chorley over
the end of May bank holiday and unlike Burnham who had major camping
problems caused by the local council, Mid Lancs has a large flat grass
field so everyone can be trackside if they want to be.
Round 3 of the National
Series is on June 12th at Peterborough so even if you are
not doing the full National Series you should try to get along to
Peterborough – remember for Nationals the registration and gate
practice sessions are on Saturday afternoons starting at 2pm with
early practice on Sunday at 8.30am with racing starting at 10am!
