Winter Sunday Afternoons 2005/6
Sunday
afternoon practice sessions have now finished for 2006 – time to
start getting the track ready for the Summer!
Winter
Regional Series 2005/6
Round 6
Ipswich
19th March
The Trophy Presentation for the Series is
planned for the Spring Classic at Norwich on April 9th
Spring
Classic at Norwich - April 9th
The regular Summer Season opener is at Norwich this
year – please note they do have a problem with parking trackside so
you need to allow a little extra time to walk from the Industrial
Estate or official car park if you can in it! Registration Closes
11-00pm so do not be late! Your plate should be your 2006 National or
Regional ranking plate or the last 3 digits of your licence number –
and the plate should be the correct colour.
2006
Royston Rockets Club Calendar
The club arranged with Bob Allen to have our own
calendar, which features many of our riders in action. The idea went
well so we will try to repeat it for next year as well. 2006 versions
can still be ordered at £12-50 each.

Club Membership
Your annual club membership is
now due and forms are with this newsletter – please complete them
and return them, with the fee either directly to the membership
secretary or see them at the club meetings. This year it has a section
for a brief rider profile which, if you tick the permission box, will
be used on the club website.
British
Cycling Membership and Licence.
This
is the complicated bit – you must remember that there are two
different parts to this. Your BC “membership”, which is on the
white side of your BC card, runs for 12 months from when it was issued
but your BC “Race Licence”, which is actually an internationally
recognised licence, is the coloured side of the card and runs from
January 1st to the end of December. So if you have not
applied for a licence for 2006 you do not have one now although your
membership may still be valid! The colour of the licence changes each
year (2005 was red) and this colour change is across the cycling world
as dictated by the UCI.
Club
Promotions
Wayne
Taylor has been pounding the streets of Royston and beyond recently,
and has generated loads of interest in your club with local companies
and most importantly the media!
A
pair of sponsors JK Environmental and Custom Riders have come forward
to provide new race tops for our National and Regional riders –
hopefully we have managed to cover everyone but if we have missed
anyone then we will do a second run. The club committee has also
decided to provide race trousers from the same supplier in the USA and
Wayne has managed to raise enough other donations to virtually cover
this cost – a great achievement in a very short timescale.
The
Club Promotions Day - Saturday May 6th
This
will include Open and Novice racing and a number of stalls including a
clothes sale so Mum can browse whilst the rest are racing!
Trophies for the top three in each of 7 Expert classes plus
medals for the Novices. We expect that 20”, Cruiser and Females will
all ride together but the actual class structure will remain flexible
until registration closes so we can put on the best display of our
sport.
The
Royston Town Council have awarded the club £200 from the “Community
Chest” to cover the costs of First Aid and hall hire for this event,
for which we are very grateful, but unfortunately we do still have a
number of costs to cover so the Open racing will be £5 and Novices £3.
Whilst
Registration closes at 2-00pm we would like club members to be
available to set up from 11-00am and before that we would like every
club member to start telling all their friends about it. All riders
will have to provide their own bikes, helmets, etc. but if you do have
a friend come along to ride Novice we would hope you could possibly
let them have a go on your bike for a lap or two.
We
are hoping to have the local radio stations there – and maybe even
television so make sure you bike is clean!
We
are going to produce flyers for the event and larger posters and if
you can help distribute them to schools, youth clubs shops etc. then
please let us know.
If
you have any other ideas to make the event a great attraction to
promote your club and BMX racing then feel free to let us know.
