2005
Club Membership
Club members have been busy filling in
their membership forms and the number of members signed up for 2005 is
very good considering we are not yet into the summer season. For those
of you who have not yet applied for 2005 this will be your last
newsletter so it’s time to get the pen out and complete the form
clearly and return it on a club afternoon or to the address at the
top. Also, make sure you have applied for your racing licence from
British Cycling – licences, like Royston club membership run from
January to December. If you have never had a BC membership / licence
before then –please contact the club membership secretary before
applying to take advantage of a special offer for 2005.
Winter
Regional Series
The
Winter Series was completed at Ipswich on March 20th and
Royston have had some very good results. Provisional rankings show
Ethan Lewis won the Formula 5 class whilst the top of Formula Formula
Four was very close being won by James Handleigh with Louis Burton
just 4 points behind in 2nd, Kyle Gutteridge in 7th, Luke
Holbrow was in 11th after taking part in only two rounds
and one ride left Luke Gibson in 14th. The two Gutteridge
brothers in Formula 3 went right down to the line with Ben taking 5th
by one point from Wayne in 6th. Other Royston riders in the
class included Nicholas Duncan, Zach Stevens, Anthony Taylor and
Kirstie Gibson who all competed in less than two rounds and hence did
not make the top 10. Strangely, Royston had no riders in Formula 2
although some of our riders rode in the class as they moved up or down
classes as the series rules dictate. In Formula 1, Shaun Doherty was
the highest ranked Royston rider as he finished in 4th with
Richard Townsend in 7th and Stuart Smith down the rankings
after only one ride. The success shown by our younger riders
especially must indicate that they have benefited from the Regional
Coaching sessions over the winter and we can look forward to some very
good results in the Summer Regional and National Series.
Club
Afternoon – April 3rd - gates open 2-00pm
April
3rd was to be a club promotions day but due to the weather
and some vandalism caused by mini motorbikes the track is not in good
condition so the event has been delayed until later in the year. The
track will be open for practice on April 3rd and we hope to
have final discussions on the proposed track changes, which will be
taking place later in the month.

Rockets Mugs
The Club Mugs that have been ordered
will be available soon – just the water leak tests to be carried
out!
2005
Summer National Series
There are a few changes to the proposed
regulations for the National Series – the main ones being related to
classes. The BC BMX Commission has now agreed that the male classes up
to 10 years will be as 2004 but two new classes of 11/12 and 13/14
will be introduced for 2005. Female and Cruiser classes will remain as
for 2004. Full series regulations will soon be available on the
British Cycling web site, which is being redesigned to have a BMX
specific section

There
are to be two “Super Regionals” – races combined with the South
Region, which will give around 200 rider events. Each Region will be
sorting out it’s own riders points so no one will loose out. The
Regional Series will also have combined classes for the male riders in
2005 – i.e. 6 & Under, 7-8, 9/-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16. All
other classes will be as 2004. A leaflet will be available to all
riders soon with full Series details.

to Richard Lewis and Kevin Handleigh who have successfully qualified
as BC BMX Regional Event Officials.
