Track Upgrades

The changes to the track are complete – much later in the year than we planned and the new limestone surface – over 80 tonnes of it just needs a regular rain to soak it before we give it another role or two! The gate start system has been converted to 4 lights and the lights themselves are much brighter so Royston now has one of the most up to date gates systems in the country.

 Club Practice Evenings

We are sorry that the Tuesday evening sessions have been disrupted this year by the track changes but now that it is sorted out we can start the Club Summer Race Series. The gates open at 7-00pm with registration closing about 7-30pm and during school term time we try to finish by 9-00pm. These are good times for every club member – whatever their age - to get gate and track practice as well as learn more skills in race conditions.

Summer Regional Series

 - Royston’s Regional on July 3rd

Royston’s round of the Summer Regional Series is on July 3rd and there are classes for Novice riders as well as the more experienced riders who are competing in the full series. If you want to experience a larger race meeting then racing as a Novice may be for you – you will not need a British Cycling Race Licence and there is none of the pressure of racing for series rankings points so you can have a fun day on your bike.

Rider Registration closes at 11-00am and the meeting usually finishes around 4-00pm.

We hope all club members can come along –riders to race and parents to help set up and run the event – we need a range of skills from selling raffle tickets to race officials so we can find a role for all parents. The gates will open at 9-00am and we would hope to have all the fencing, PA, gate, food etc. set up and ready by 10-00am so the first hour is quite hectic!

The committee need help before the event as well as on the day. If anyone has a bit of spare time to visit local shops to try to get raffle prizes, or donations to run the event – white paint, bunting, adverts to put in the programme etc. they should talk to Phil or Maureen.

Remember, we have the East Anglia Championships in September so if we do get too many prizes for the July event they can always be used in September.

 2005 Summer National Series

As mentioned in the last newsletter, the first round of this year’s series attracted an amazing 450+ riders – over 100 more than the first round last year and the second round at the Mid Lancs. Club over the end of May bank holiday also had a substantial increase in riders over 2004 and with round 3 on June 12th at Peterborough also approaching 440 riders the national series has a real buzz about it and the Royston riders are bringing home some good results. The club is currently mid table in the club rankings but with luck and a run of good rides we will move up as the year progresses.

The next round is on July 17th at Newton Abbott (Decoy BMX Club) – remember for Nationals the registration and gate practice sessions are on Saturday afternoons starting at 2pm with early practice on Sunday at 8.30am with racing starting at 10am!

Royston Rockets Mugs

There are still a few Club Mugs available – if you would like one they are £5 per mug.

Club Web Site –        www.roystonrockets.co.uk

Many thanks to Richard Lewis and family for regular photos – but they can’t be the only family in the club with a digital camera or with something to offer for the site. If you have anything for the web site please send it direct via the “contact us” function – pictures, race reports, rider profiles – what ever you like - after all it’s your club’s site!

You might also wish to have a look at the East Anglia site – www.bmxeast.com which also needs regular updates and new information.
