April 2004 Newsletter

If you are wondering why you missed the February newsletter – don’t panic, as there was not one! However, this one is very early in March to make up for it.

British Cycling Race Licenses and Membership

If you had a BC licence in 2003 is has now run out and needs to be renewed! Race Licenses run from January 1st to December 31st whilst BC Membership runs for 12 months from the date of your application, which is very confusing but done for good reasons. BC send reminders out about membership but to get full benefit with a licence it is best to apply for your membership and licence in January.

Club Members who do not ride any Regional or National events do not need a licence and East Anglia allows new riders to ride 2-3 Regional Series races without a licence – but after that you must have one. At National level you must have a licence for any event unless you are riding a local event as a novice.

Winter Series Racing

Many thanks to all those that helped at the Royston meeting on 22nd Feb – some very good results from our riders and very good publicity in the local papers – two out three giving over half a page to the event and with colour pictures!

The dates for the rest of the East Anglian Winter Series are;

March 7th – Ipswich
March 14 – Peterborough
March 28th – Dunstable

Don’t forget to check the Regional hotline before travelling if the weather is bad - 01449 722115

Practice Sessions

The Sunday morning sessions at Royston have been fun, although a few more riders always helps. Due to Regional changes the dates we had set are now allocated to other events;

21st March Open Meeting at Milton Keynes to support British Cycling “Talent Team”

Details not yet available but it will be a fun event with a chance to learn a bit more about racing.

4th April Regional Promotional day – Each club in the region will be holding some kind of promotion at their own track – probably similar to a practice session but starting about midday until mid afternoon. Again we will need the support of all club members and families to make it work.

Summer Regional Series Dates

The following dates have been set for the 2004 Regional Summer Series – information sheets are being prepared in time for the Spring Classic and will be sent to those members who do not go to Norwich.

Spring Classic Open – Norwich – April 11
Round 1 – Braintree – April 18
Round 2 MK – May 9
Round 3 – Peterborough – May 16
Round 4 – Ipswich – June 4
Round 5 – Dunstable – June 14
Round 6 – MK – July 28
Round 7 – Royston – August 15

The East Anglian Open Championships - Braintree on September 19

Race Officials

British Cycling are proposing to run regional courses for race officials – initially to Regional Standard but with the option of going higher. If anyone would like to take part in the initial one-day course would they please let us know.

Club Web Site

If you have anything for the web site please send it direct via the “contact us” function – pictures, race reports, comments about racing – what ever you like - after all it’s your club’s site! You might also wish to have a look at the East Anglia site – www.bmxeast.com, which has links to the other clubs in our region.

Club Clothing – Big Discounts

To encourage members and families to wear the club clothing at race meetings, big discounts on any order are being offered - why not kit out the whole family!

Track Modifications

North Herts Council have confirmed that the Skate Park will be moved from the track during March! The changes to the track will be done as soon as the site is cleared and we will need plenty of helpers when the work starts - you have been warned!!
