HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL AND SAFE RACING ON 2006
Apologies
for the lack of a pre Christmas newsletter – it crept up on us too
fast and before we knew where we were it was Christmas Day! WE hope
you all had a good time and loads of useful presents – we look
forward to seeing new bikes, helmets and race kit around
the track.
Club Presentation Evening
December 4th saw over 40 riders,
family and friends descend on the Stevenage Bowl. We booked one game
and 6 lanes and no less than 36 of you took the chance to have a go.
Many thanks to Richard Lewis for arranging the evening and getting a
deal on the prices so the club was able to pay for all those who
played.. After the bowling the Presentation of the Summer Series
Trophies took place to those who qualified as well as the awards for
the Club Rider Award, which went to James Handleigh in recognition for
his number one Regional Series Ranking as well as good results at
National Level. The Club Member Award went to Louis Burton for his
solid rides throughout the year at Regional and National level which
generated regular points for the club in the team elements of these
events and in particular for him qualifying for the finals in the
British Championships where he finished in 6th. The Rob Indri Memorial
award went to Anthony Taylor who grew in confidence during the year
culminating with an excellent 4th in the East Anglian Championships
and a semi final place in his first British Championships. The
Shane Keeler Memorial Award went to Aston Blanche who only started
racing at the beginning of the year but tried his hand at all levels
from club to National, including the British Championships.

2006 Royston Rockets Club Calendar
The club has arranged with Bob Allen to have our own
calendar, which features many of our riders in action. The calendar
came out late as Bob was hoping to include the National and Regional
dates (see below). A sample of the calendar will be available at club
meetings and cost £12-50 if you wish to order your own copy.
2006
National and Regional Race Dates
The dates for the 2006 Nationals are still not
confirmed – and so the Regional dates still cannot be confirmed.
2006
Club Membership
Your
annual club membership is now due and forms are with this newsletter
– please complete them and return them, with the fee either directly
to the membership secretary or see them at the club meetings. This
year it has a section for a brief rider profile which, if you tick the
permission box, will be used on the club website.
British
Cycling Membership and Licence.
This
is the complicated bit – you must remember that there are two
different parts to this. Your BC “membership”, which is on the
white side of your BC card, runs for 12 months from when it was issued
but your BC “Race Licence”, which is actually an internationally
recognised licence, is the coloured side of the card and runs from
January 1st to the end of December. So if you have not
applied for a licence for 2006 you do not have one now although your
membership may still be valid! The colour of the licence changes each
year (2005 was red) and this colour change is across the cycling world
as dictated by the UCI.
